Making Early Childhood Education Accessible in North St. Louis

On September 26, 2018 at 8:00am, City Academy will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the school’s new Early Childhood Center. The Center is a new addition to the school’s campus and is one component of City Academy’s $22 million campaign. Before the public launch of the campaign, a $10 million endowment initiative was completed in the spring of 2017

The Early Childhood Center will expand the school’s current Early Childhood education program to include three-year-olds in the fall of 2019. The addition will also allow the school to grow from 185 students to 250 scholars. The Early Childhood Center is a state-of-the-art facility that integrates learning through collaboration among teachers and families, and includes outdoor learning classrooms and a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) studio.

Major gifts to the campaign will be recognized at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. These gifts include a $7.5 million endowment gift from the McDonnell family, which helped launch the campaign in the spring of 2016. The Crawford-Taylor family provided a $2 million campaign gift which will provide scholarship support to the school’s expanded student body. The Charles F. Knight family gave $1 million to finance the school’s new Early Childhood Center. The Steward Family Foundation provided $1 million to support the school’s growth. Bayer donated $250,000 for a new MakerSpace classroom for the school’s STEAM program.

These major donors and other significant campaign donors will be acknowledged at the school’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on September 26. Donors, families, students, alumni, faculty and staff will be available for interviews. There will also be tours of the new facility and renovated learning spaces after the ceremony.
