Then and Now: An Alumna Story
March 29, 2018

Shawn Williamson ’07 (Whitfield School ’13, Texas Christian University ’17)

City Academy began in 1999 with three grades at Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club. One student in City Academy’s first junior kindergarten class was Shawn Williamson ’07 (Whitfield School ’13, Texas Christian University ’17). Now in her first semester at Saint Louis University School of Law, Shawn fondly recalls her years at City Academy. “I loved school! My teachers took an interest in my education and always encouraged me. They set high expectations but also let me know that I could be successful.”

Although Shawn loved school, she struggled with upper grade math. “I always enjoyed math, but it became challenging for me in third grade. My teachers realized I was struggling and offered more in-depth support. They also included my parents, which was key to my success. I received the same support from school as I did at home.”

The critical support Shawn received during this time pushed her to be her very best. She credits City Academy with her acceptance and success at Whitfield School and Texas Christian University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminal justice. Shawn is currently pursuing a law degree so that she can give back to our community, make an impact, and provide a voice to those who do not have one.
