Early Childhood Director
“I am inspired when children have that ‘aha moment’ … that time when their eyes light up and the expression on their face says ‘I get it.’ That is what excites me the most about teaching at City Academy.”
Donna Hynes has been a teacher at City Academy since “year two” (2000), and she has the unofficial title of City Academy’s longest-running faculty member. In the 2020-2021 school year, she took on a new role as the Early Childhood Director.
Donna enjoys having the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child. Her passion for teaching started with her kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Tucker and prior to her work at City Academy, Donna was a pre-kindergarten lead teacher at Caroline Mission Child Care Center.
During the 2014-2015 school year, Ms. Hynes began City Academy’s first family literacy night. She coordinates and collaborates with the Early Childhood teachers and our school Librarian to organize a yearly literacy night for City Academy families.
Donna is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and International Literacy Association.
